SEIU MEMBERS PROVIDED CRUCIAL HELP FOR OBAMA IN INDIANA“SEIU members worked tirelessly on behalf of Senator Obama and that work translated into tremendous success,” said Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger. “We closed the gap with Senator Clinton to just a few thousand votes in addition to pushing gubernatorial nominee Jill Long Thompson over the top in a tight election and putting Congressman André Carson back on the path to Washington to continue fighting for working families.”
Some of SEIU’s work in the state includes:

Members registered more than 4,500 new voters in the final two weeks before the primary election registration deadline

SEIU ran television ads on behalf of Obama and Carson 4/30 through 5/6

SEIU sent six pieces of direct voter contact mail on behalf of Obama and Thompson

Members knocked on more than 60,000 doors and made 789,584 phone calls to hundreds of thousands of Democratic households

Over the final weekend, SEIU members from Illinois and Wisconsin traveled to Indiana and knocked on 23,472 doors

250 members volunteered on Election Day to run GOTV efforts for the Obama campaign in half the precincts in Gary, comprising more than 18,000 households

Overall, more than 600 SEIU member volunteers from Illinois traveled to Indiana to help their Hoosier friends.
